Sixty Clicks Shiraz Mataro from Boutinot

Wine of the Month

Published on Tuesday 10 April 2018

This month's featured wine is a cracking example of Australian wine making from acclaimed wine producer Boutinot. A really expressive, bright, contemporary Aussie Shiraz blended with Mataro to add depth. This is one to enjoy glass after glass and why wouldn’t you?

The Shiraz and Mataro grapes used in this blend come from the flatter parts of the vineyard and are grown east to west to ensure that they gain the maximum amount of sunlight to give them all the development they need from the red, sandy loam soil. When they reach full ripeness they are harvested at night and brought to the winery to be crushed within the hour. They then spend four weeks in the fermentation tanks with oak staves, on their skins and pumped over four times a day. The final blending of the Shiraz and Mataro wines are done under strict supervision of the head winemaker before being bottled

Its nose is soft and open with a touch of chocolate. Have a sip and you’ll find fruit and clove notes with a palate of fresh brambly, cherries that leads on to a gentle spicy finish. Smashing!

Great with a summer barbeque or comforting meat casseroles in the winter or just a great all-rounder in between, this is a truly brilliant wine to stock up on, especially as we have it for the great price of just £8.99 a bottle.

For a truly great pairing why not try with our new featured cheese of the month, the Duke of Wellington from Cryer & Stott.
